The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stepped in to provide personal support to Shreyas Iyer, who is recovering from a ruptured spleen and rib cage injury sustained during the final ODI against Australia last week. The 29-year-old Indian batter was hospitalised in Sydney, where he underwent treatment for internal injuries.
As per a report from The Times of India, the BCCI has made arrangements for Iyer’s sister, Shresta Iyer, to fly to Sydney and be with her brother during his recovery phase. The Indian cricket board also confirmed that its medical team is closely monitoring Iyer’s condition and providing all necessary support.
BCCI Provides Update on Iyer’s Recovery
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that Dr Rizwan Khan, the Indian team doctor, has remained in Sydney to oversee Iyer’s medical care. “He has been admitted to one of the best hospitals in Sydney,” Saikia said. “Our medical team is in constant touch with the hospital staff and ensuring the best possible treatment.”
The update comes as a relief for Indian cricket fans, who have been concerned about Iyer’s health since the incident. Sources within the BCCI confirmed that the batter has now been moved out of the ICU and is in a stable condition.
Suryakumar Yadav Confirms Positive News
Providing further reassurance, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav shared a positive update about Iyer’s recovery during a press conference in Canberra, ahead of the India vs Australia T20I series.
“He is in fine shape — eating solid food, walking in the hospital without support, and taking phone calls,” said Suryakumar at the Manuka Oval. “We have been talking for two days now. He is replying to messages and sounds in good spirits.”
Suryakumar revealed that he initially tried reaching out to Iyer immediately after the injury but later got updates from team physio Kamlesh, confirming that Iyer was stable.
Shardul Thakur Also Confirms Stability
Adding to the positive developments, Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur also shared that he spoke to Iyer recently. “I spoke to Shreyas. He was stable,” Thakur said while addressing the media during the Ranji Trophy.
Iyer Expected to Recover Soon
With Shresta Iyer soon joining her brother in Sydney and the BCCI medical team continuing to monitor his progress, Shreyas Iyer is expected to make a strong recovery in the coming weeks. Fans across the world have flooded social media with messages of support, wishing the talented batter a swift return to full fitness.
